Conceived for the interior and the exterior of Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, the exhibition "Arnaldo Pomodoro. The Great Theatre of Civilizations" appears as an autobiographical "theatre," both real and mental, historical and imaginative, the stage for works executed by the artist between the end of the 1950s and 2021, together with documentary materials, many unpublished - letters, sketches, drawings, p'hotos and artists' books - which recall the dimension of the studio and the archive. The exhibition presented in this catalogue explores the interconnection in Pomodoro's practice between visual arts and performing arts, and highlights the relationship between the project and its realization. What emerges is a web of many possible references to the archaic, ancient, modern or also merely imaginary "civilizations" to which the work of Pomodoro constantly points, giving rise to forms, signs and materials that are at once memory of the past and vision of the future, and that recast our knowledge and the world of our imagination, our experience of time and space, of history and myth.
