An Exorcism of Time, published on the occasion of the major exhibition dedicated to Mario Cresci, presents a long, fascinating journey around the work the author developed between 1960s and 1980s in the South of Italy: a visual research where investigations on territory, social identity and material culture are intertwined in an unprecedented and deep meditation on time. A tribute, as the curator of the project Marco Scotini writes, "to the great photography of Mario Cresci (heretical, contaminated, other than itself) and to the continuous challenge of its author against the very principle upon which photography is founded: that of 'fixing the image of an event in time' as a unique and unrepeatable act. That is to say, as a momentary cut of the visible world, rendered once and for all. "Thus, the extraordinary black-and-white series devoted to domestic interiors, family groups, everyday objects, and "photographs of photographs" are like real archives of memory that trace, along with the texts accompanying them, the profile of Mario Cresci, an author who has managed to create a work of compelling modernity, focused on listening and understanding the other.
